Mary Powell will be a speaker at the American Bar Association (ABA) 2024 Fall Tax Meeting being held virtually and in-person this September 23 – 27, 2024. Attendees will learn from and meet with the country’s leading tax attorneys and government officials, discussing the latest federal, state, and local tax policies, and more.
Mary will present: “Employee Benefits Welfare Plan, EEOC, FMLA and Leave Issues Update” on Thursday, September 26th, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. During this subcommittee meeting, panelists will address emerging trends in group health plan design and administration and related guidance. Topics will include drug coupon and assistance programs, state regulation of pharmacy benefit managers and prescription drug plans and ERISA preemption, HIPAA privacy, security compliance related to ownership of protected health information, reproductive health care privacy, and substance use disorder patient records. Additionally, representatives from the IRS and HHS have been invited to provide an update on current projects, including guidance responding to No Surprises Act litigation and HIPAA. Mary has over two decades of experience in all areas of employee benefits law. She currently focuses on assisting employers with the implementation of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (CAA), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and drafting executive compensation and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. Mary is a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, the highest level of recognition for an ERISA attorney, and recognized for excellence in employee benefits law by Chambers USA.
