Joseph Chan concentrates his practice in the area of employee benefits, with a focus on ERISA litigation. He represents plan sponsors, trustees, and other fiduciaries in a wide range of employee benefits cases, including class action litigation fiduciary breach litigation, and claims for medical, disability, and pension benefits.
In addition to his litigation practice, Joseph counsels clients on a variety of matters, including fiduciary responsibility and regulatory compliance. Joseph also represents plan fiduciaries in Department of Labor investigations.
Before law school, Joseph was a practicing Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) specializing in tax guidance and compliance services for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and their closely held companies. During his law school tenure, he completed an externship with the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office, where he assisted with drafting litigation filings, including a brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following law school, and prior to joining Trucker Huss, Joseph represented large corporate clients in complex state and local tax matters nationwide
