More and more employers are considering covering GLP-1 drugs when prescribed for weight loss. These employers are attempting to properly balance the near-term financial costs of covering these drugs with the long-term costs of untreated obesity. Due to their high costs and high utilization, some employers are amending their plans to exclude coverage of these drugs for weight loss. What issues should employers consider when determining whether to cover these weight loss drugs under their health plans?
